Insights of Load Balancer passive endpoint is Unhealthy, is it normal?

I have Active/Passive SAP Hana DB scenerio. Everything looks fine on SAP side but the passive end point in Load Balancer is still unhealthy. Is it normal?

‘Thanks for updating with the current status. could you please provide more details about if active/passive SAP HANA DB both are in healthy state now and did you make any configuration changes or it became healthy without you making any configuration changes?

To find the root cause you may look into different configurations status and logs:

Load balancer configurations - Verify that the load balancer is correctly configured to route traffic to the passive node. Ensure that the health check settings (such as port, protocol, and interval) match the SAP HANA configuration. Confirm that the load balancer is monitoring the correct endpoint (e.g., the SAP HANA listener port).

Inspect SAP HANA configuration - Inspect the SAP HANA configuration files (e.g., global.ini, indexserver.ini) on the passive node. Verify that the listener port, host, and other relevant settings match the load balancer configuration. Check if the passive node is correctly registered with the SAP HANA system. Log in to the passive SAP HANA node and verify its overall health. Check for any alerts, errors, or warnings in the SAP HANA logs.

Inspect network configuration- Ensure that network connectivity between the load balancer and the passive SAP HANA node is functional. Check for any firewall rules or network issues that might prevent communication. Validate DNS resolution for the passive node’s hostname or IP address.

It's normal for a passive endpoint in a load balancer to be marked as unhealthy, especially in an Active/Passive scenario like SAP HANA DB. In such setups, the passive endpoint remains inactive and is only activated when the active endpoint fails or during planned maintenance activities.

However, while it's normal for the passive endpoint to appear unhealthy during normal operation, it's essential to ensure no underlying issues are causing this status. I'd recommend reviewing the configuration of your load balancer to ensure it's correctly set up to monitor the health of both active and passive endpoints.

Is there any Azure document you followed to set this up?

If you have an Active-Passive set up, that means one end Point should be unhealthy (Passive one)

That is how the Load Balancer would know not to route traffic to the unhealthy one.

Or else, Load Balancer would be sending traffic to both the end Points (making it Active-Active)

Please share the exact document you followed to set this up.

SAP basis team made one point active and one passive from their end. So, its hard to reach out to SAP basis team for this but i will check. However, as your comment and some of the above comments shows that it is normal because SAP system works fine.
