I saw on another MS discussion board that someone had success by resizing the image into the square (1:1) ratio, I did this with my small .png file that was very blurry and it worked. I used this program to resize:

Hi,
I am trying to update my profile photo in MS Teams and as soon as the photo is uploaded it's blurry. However, the original photo is clear. I have read other articles and I have tried the following:
- adjusting the DPI
- resizing the photo
- updating the photo via the M365 profile (web)
- using MS Teams mobile app to upload photo
- using MS Teams desktop app
I have had no luck at all. Is this a known MS issue and there is no fix? Can someone please assist me with this

I am having the same problem, and my photo is also less than 4mb and is saved as png. it's clear but blurry in outlook and teams.

2024-05-16T23:21:49.61+00:00 It's been 2 months since I posted this issue and still no solution. I think this is a known MS issue and my guess is that MS lowers the photo resolution when it gets uploaded even though the actual photo quality is clear.

I put very much work into the profile pictures, only to end up with some blurry looking mush like we live in 1995. And like that is not enough, of course all of the employees think it is my fault. Could this issue please, please be fixed?

Jason Kelley 0 Reputation points2025-05-13T16:08:03.92+00:00 This seems to be the solution and it worked for me. Rather than resize the image to be 1:1, which will distort the image, I would suggest cropping a 1:1 part of the picture out. The built in Photos app for Windows 11 can do this easily:
- Open the picture in Photos.
- Click the crop button in the toolbar/ribbon at the top.
- In the right column, click aspect ratio.
- Choose Square.
- Now move the box around to get the part of the image you want to crop out and it will be 1:1. Save a copy to avoid overwriting the original image.
- Now use the new image as your profile picture.
Now my old blurry image is super clear!

If you want to upload an image to Teams as your profile photo, the image needs to be smaller than 4MB.
Based on your description, the problem may be that the resolution of the image may be too high to be used as a profile picture. Try uploading that copy as your profile picture or lowering the image resolution to see if it's clearer.
According to feedback from forum users, .png images may be clearer than jpg, please try changing the image format to .png.

The image size is 1.35MB and type is .jpeg. In this case since the image size is less than 4MB, are you able to confirm what the issue might be? I have also tried uploading a .png file but no luck. I can send a copy of the photo via private message if you would like to investigate further.
