I am in Windows 11 and have a word document that I am trying to have all of the _ lines that I make even on the right side of the page. I have tried the "---enter" tip that I saw online, doesn't work. Alignment buttons don't help either. Any other suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks Kathy

Are you trying to add a border line across the page? In that case, click in the paragraph where you want the border. On the Home tab, click the arrow on the border button (in the Paragraph group) and choose Borders and Shading. In the dialog box, go to the Borders tab and add a bottom border by clicking in the preview picture. Confirm that "Apply to" says "Paragraph" and then click OK.

Thanks for helping me...I tried that option but it's underlines the text as well. Here is an example of what I am trying to do.

"Text:_______" and have that line go all the way to the right side of the page. I am using this document to create a fillable pdf form and if I just use " _" all the way across, when I convert it to the form, the line doesn't align properly along the right side of the document. Does this make sense? Thanks again for any ideas!

To set up a form in Word, use table cells to create the "fields" where users enter text.

So there's no other way? I already have the document created and it's really not table friendly...oh well...thanks

Use fields to create the layout for the document and for the underlines (which would then be table borders).

Of course, if you also need to collect data, you can insert content controls or legacy fields.

See my page on Making Forms in Microsoft Word. Stefan is correct that the simplest method is to use a Table. The borders on the table need not be displayed. It holds the spots for your responses and any surrounding information.

I agree with Stefan's advice. Here's an my article with a little more information about creating forms in Word. Please see section 4:

Since your goal is a fillable PDF, don't bother with form fields or content controls, as those will not transfer to a PDF in usable form. Instead, add the fillable fields in Acrobat.

PDFs exported from Word cannot expand in size as text is added, so you'll have to design with enough space to accommodate the maximum amount of text anyone might ever use.
