Team,

We have the SCCM to deploy monthly patches & applications and it's working perfectly without any issues.

15h, March (6 AM CET) my colleague installed windows patch KB5033911 to fix VA.

After patches installed the reboot message came but DID NOT Reboot on that time, we logged off the server to wait for next maintenance window.

But, the servers reboot automatically on 6.40 PM CET, it's Not Maintenance window.

We don't know why ccmexe.exe is initiated the reboot automatically without any maintenance window.

Can someone please help? This is critical app server should not reboot automatically.

I shared on here, Event viewer, Reboot coordinator & Maintenance coordinator logs.

Event viewer\System: The process C:\Windows\CCM\CcmExec.exe (servername) has initiated the restart of computer servername on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found

Reason Code: 0x80020001

Shutdown Type: restart

Comment: Your computer will restart at 3/15/2024 6:48:25 PM to complete the installation of applications and software updates.

Based on the information provided, it seems that the server rebooted automatically after installing a Windows patch. The reason code in the event viewer indicates that the restart was initiated by the process C:\Windows\CCM\CcmExec.exe. This process is related to Configuration Manager, which is used to deploy patches and applications. It's possible that the reboot was triggered by Configuration Manager due to a setting or policy that was configured.

To investigate further, it may be helpful to review the Configuration Manager logs to see if there were any errors or warnings related to the patch installation or reboot. It may also be worth checking the client device settings in Configuration Manager to ensure that the Windows restart experience is configured correctly.

Additionally, it's worth noting that Windows Update can also schedule maintenance tasks that may cause a server to reboot unexpectedly. If this is the case, it may be helpful to review the Windows Update logs to see if there were any scheduled tasks that coincided with the unexpected reboot.

    Hi, @Srini

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

First, you may check your deployment of the software update, for the User Experience\Deadline behavior, if you check the option "System restart (if necessary)", the restart will be performed outside the maintenance window.

Then, check the client setting, do you enable "Configuration Manager can force a device to restart"?User's image
