Hello all,

We observed a strange issue in the document id feature in SharePoint Online.

While editing in the grid view, the document id is displayed as read-only and not editable but while editing the properties through edit form, the document id can be changed and URL associated with the id is also editable.

Thank you for posting in the Q&A forum.

I can reproduce this behavior in my SharePoint Oline. It seems to be the default behavior for SharePoint Online since it happens in all document libraries on all sites, which is not fixable from our end. I have also tried using PowerShell to set this field as Read Only, but it does not work for this field either. I am a bit regretful that I was not able to help you much on this.

We recommend you give suggestion in the feedback portal and help to make improvements. Many features of current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback.

How can it be a default behavior? It seems to be a bug.
The document id is supposed to be unique and it's also linked to the document's location. Anyone can go and change the id and the link of the document to any random value.

Hi Amit Dimri ,

Yes, it's a bug because I test it happens in all document repositories on all sites, so I'd say he's the default behavior, not an occasional problem that you have alone. I apologize for any misunderstanding over this. Suggest you file a feedback against this issue like Microsoft and I'll vote for you.
