Installed update not showing in the history of the vm

Hello everyone,

I have an azure virtual machine (Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Azure Edition) for which I performed update installations using the Azure Update Manager service. The installations went smoothly, as this report shows:

Update report

However, when I connect to the machine and look at the update history (Settings > Update & Security > View update history ), it doesn't contain the latest security update.

Strangely enough, when I check for updates on the old control panel (Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updated), it does contain the update.

Vm update

How can I explain this difference? How can I confirm that an update has actually been installed?

Thank you for your feedback

    @Pierre

    I understand that you are installing an update on your Windows Server VM with Azure Update Manager and wanting to know how to confirm if the update has been installed.

    Azure Update Manager provides a comprehensive view of update compliance, and checking through the portal is the recommended approach. If the update is listed as successful in the History for Azure Update Manager, it should also reflect in the VM’s update history. So local verification would be unnecessary as this has already been performed by the service. As for "View update history" not showing all updates, it seems that this is expected behavior. You can view the answer here for more information.

    "You can use command line to view the update history:

    dism /online /get-packages"

    You can also view detailed logs for Azure Update Manager on Windows if you have issues or need to troubleshoot.

    C:\WindowsAzure\Logs\Plugins\Microsoft.CPlat.Core.WindowsPatchExtension\1.5.68

    Hope this helps! Let me know if you still have questions or need further assistance.
