How to override the Checked out to on Sharepoint 2016?

Hi all,

I have a site set up on SP2016. I have the admin level access using which I can check in and check out the documents on SP site. However, there is one document/file which is currently in Checked out state by System account. I have checked with the team, and no one is using that account. How can I override the checkout option for the file using PowerShell? I have tried few scripts but most of them are related to SharePoint online.

I have also tried to do it from the library itself, but those options are grayed out for me just for that file. I can override the action for other files.

Can someone please help?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Vishvat Gautami ,Thank you for posting in the Q&A forum.

Instead of choosing to override checkout (check-in/discard), you have to Take Ownership of a file.

If the files are checked out to others and you want to take ownership of these checked out files, we can go to library settings > manage files which have no checked in version > tick the files > take ownership of selection. then the chosen files will be checked out to you.
