A friend moved his company's server to Azure and configured a VPN gateway using the 2nd gen. SKU VPNGW2. He's finding that the cost of his Azure setup is largely that of the VPN GW, and he doesn't need this much throughput.
I'm new to Azure and find the documentation of the VPN gateway SKUs to be self-contradictory. In one set of documentation, I see that VPN GW1 is still available as a Gen. 2 VPN, but in another that VPN GW1 was only available as Gen. 1 and has been deprecated and can, therefore, no longer be deployed.
When I look at the options in the Azure portal for the VPN Gateway, the info button indicates that VPN GW1 was supported in Gen. 1 only.
Can I get a clear answer as to whether I can downgrade from Gen. 2 VPNGW2 to a Gen.2 version of VPNGW1? (VPNGW1 is not one of the options listed in the drop-down list of sku choices in the Azure portal. It appears you can upgrade, but not downgrade.)
If I can't downgrade but need to rebuild the VPN gateway, can I do so with VPNGW1?)
TIA for any help clearing up my confusion. :-)
