We are migrating all the company devices to Microsoft Entra ID joined. But almost all devices already have been used for a while and users have there data and personal costumizations on an personal account on the device. I want to keep that and connect that account to the Entra ID environment.

The problem is that i can't find anywhere how to connect it to an existing account and not create another. Is this possible?

    @JC Zand ,

    If I understand your question correctly, it sounds like you are trying to connect an existing Windows account to an Entra ID environment.

    If this is what you are trying to do, here are the steps to do this:

    On the Windows device, go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school. Then select "Connect" enter your Entra ID credentials. Then you should see your Entra ID account listed under "Access work or school." Under your Entra ID account > Info > Manage > Connect to work or school, you can select "Join this device to Microsoft Entra ID".

    Once the device is enrolled, you should be able to access resources with the Windows account.

    Do let me know though if there is more you would like to accomplish and if I understood your full question.

    Hello JC Zand,

    Good day!

    The process of joining Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) is not to connect a personal account to an Entra environment, but to enroll a device into an organization managed by Entra ID in order to sign in with the organization's account and access corporate resources. The migration process primarily involves devices joining the corporate Entra ID environment, rather than merging personal accounts with corporate accounts.

    On Windows devices, users can navigate to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School or Email & Accounts, then select Connect Accounts and enter the Entra ID credentials provided by the company. In this way, the device will be registered into the company's Entra environment and allow the user to log in with the company's account to access the company's resources.

    With Entra ID enrolled, the device will be able to handle both personal and corporate accounts. Users can continue to log in and access personal data with their personal accounts, as well as access company resources and applications with their company accounts.

    In summary, when onboarding a device to a Microsoft Entra ID, it's critical that users can seamlessly use their corporate account while maintaining a personal account on the device. Users need to manage their accounts and data to ensure that work and personal content are separated.

    I hope you the information above is helpful.

    If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Yanhong Liu
