Sharepoint permission issue

I have been having this permission issue with Sharepoint online and wonder if anyone encountered this before.

I have simple files that I share with other people within the company. The file has unique permission (no inheritance) and users were given Read access. However, users are getting the "You don't have access error" unitl I added the contribute permission to it. My guess is there is some other permission setting causing the issue but I already removed the inherited permission.

Any idea?

    Hi @HK G ,

Thank you for posting in the Q&A forum.

You mentioned that users are encountering a “You don’t have access” error. This could be due to a couple of reasons:

    • Too Many Items: If a folder, library, or list contains more than 100,000 items, you cannot break permission inheritance or reinherit permissions on the entire container. However, you can still break inheritance on individual items within that container, up to the maximum number of unique permissions (which is 50,000, but the recommended limit is 5,000).
    • Unique Permissions Limit: If you have too many uniquely permitted items (files or folders) within a list or library, it can cause issues. The supported limit of unique permissions for items in a list or library is 50,000.

I checked the Library and there is less than 500 files\folders in it. So I don't the issue was caused by the file count limitation.
