Sure you can install on a VM, fully supported and there is not really a difference to a physical machine.
On Azure you can get "out-of-the-box" VM with a running SQL Server.

i have a requirement to install on azure virtual desktop a windows server with an sql server. can u advise if this is feasible or if sql is supported on wvd? i cant find any documentation on that
