Display drivers Windows/Intel

I have a black screen issue after hibernation. The problem has not been resolved because it is likely a hardware issue. However, I have downloaded and installed new display drivers from Intel. The problem here is that Intel sends new driver updates about once a week. Every time I install the driver, Windows Update overrides it by sending a new driver. However, this is an old driver from Microsoft that dates back to 2021. It is installed automatically, so I have to roll it back to the new Intel driver every time. This is something I have to do every week, and it is very frustrating. I wonder if it is necessary to install drivers from Intel so often. Is there anything I can do to prevent Microsoft from sending new updates after each installation?

    Hello

Here are some steps you can take to prevent Windows Update from overriding your Intel display drivers:

    1. Disable Automatic Driver Updates: You can disable automatic driver updates in Windows. Here’s how:

Press the Windows logo key + I on your keyboard to open Settings.

Click on System > About > Advanced system settings.

In the System Properties window, select the Hardware tab.

    Click on Device Installation Settings.

Select “No (your device might not work as expected)” and click Save Changes.

    1. Hide the Graphics Driver Update: You can use the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter to hide the graphics driver update. Windows Update won’t install hidden drivers or updates. Run the troubleshooter and hide the graphics driver that shows up in the list.

    1. Use Group Policy Editor: If you’re using Windows 10 Pro, you can use the Group Policy Editor to stop Windows from updating certain drivers.

Press the Windows logo key + R, type gpedit.msc, and hit Enter.

Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.

Double-click the “Do not include drivers with Windows Update” policy.

Select the Enabled option, click Apply, and then OK.

As for the frequency of Intel driver updates, it’s generally a good idea to keep your drivers up-to-date for optimal performance and security. However, if the frequent updates are causing issues and the current driver is working fine, you might choose to update less frequently.
