Microsoft Teams and the new Outlook offer a feature that allows employees to indicate their work location (office or remote).
- In Teams, you can set your work location by navigating to: User Profile > Set Work Location Today.
- In the new Outlook, you can follow these steps to configure your work location: Set Your Work Hours and Location in Outlook.
While the Work Location feature is valuable and promising, a common challenge remains: there is currently no streamlined way to view the entire team's work location (office or remote) in one centralized view. I haven’t found an easy solution for generating a list that shows the work location of all team members, making it difficult to see where everyone is working at a glance.
Use Case Scenarios:
- Checking team presence in the office: If I want to see if my team will be in the office next Wednesday to decide whether I should also come in, there’s no simple way to check everyone’s location in one place.
- Seeking onsite assistance: When I need help from colleagues who are working onsite today, I would like to quickly view a list of who is in the office, so I can easily ask them for assistance.
- Scheduling an in-office team meeting: I want to find a time slot where most team members are available to meet in person, but it's challenging without an overview of where everyone will be working.
