Windows XP Mode: Internet and drive access no longer works

Using Windows 7 Pro.
My XP Mode VC worked for a long time, now it can no longer access the Internet or local network.
Trying to get important docs out, but can't find a way.

  • Under the Tools menu, Enable Integration Features is grayed out.
  • Under Tools/Settings, Integration Features are marked "Not Available"
  • When re-installing Virtual PC Integration Components, it makes progress and then throws error "setup interruption".
  • Noticed that on services.msc within XP Mode, there are very, very few items running. Is this an important clue? (I was tempted to go through and change them all from "disabled" to "automatic", but figured that might bog the whole thing down).

Suggestions?
