Hello
When sharing folders, it’s essential to manage disk space effectively. If you find that the disk quota remains full even after deleting files, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:
Use Disk Cleanup Utility:
Windows saves a copy of previous Windows versions in the Windows.old folder after updating to a newer version. Over time, this folder can grow and consume space on your C drive.
To delete files inside the Windows.old folder, follow these steps:
- Search for “Disk Cleanup” in the Windows search bar.
- Select the “Disk Cleanup” app from the search results.
- Choose the C drive from the drop-down menu.
- Click “Clean up system files” at the bottom left.
- Select “Previous Windows Installation(s)” and click OK.
- Additionally, you can explore more cleaning options using the command-line version of Disk Cleanup Tool (Cleanmgr.exe) with sageset and sagerun arguments.
Turn off System Restore:
System Restore creates snapshots of system files and Windows Registry as restore points. These restore points consume space on your C drive.
To turn off System Restore:
- Search for “Create a restore point.”
- Click on the corresponding result.
- In the System Properties window, select the C drive and click “Configure.”
- Choose “Turn off system protection” and click OK.
Disable Hibernation:
Hibernation files can take up significant space. To disable hibernation:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Under the Hibernate tab, uncheck the box.
- Click OK.
Check for Indexing Services:
Windows Search Indexing can also consume space. You can disable it:
Deleted files are still taking up space on my hard drive, how do I get - Microsoft Community
Identify Large Files:
Use free software like TreeSize to identify files taking up space on your hard drive.
Once installed, scan your drive and delete unnecessary files.
Uninstall Unneeded Software:
Check your installed programs and remove any applications you no longer use.
These steps should help free up space and resolve the issue of disk quota remaining full after file deletion.
