    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

1,Client status of Inactive are indicative of the system either being offline or simply unable to communicate with the MP. For the SCCM client to remain active, it has to meet one of the five evaluation criteria defined in the Monitor\Client Status\Client Status Settings Properties in 7 days (by default). A client will be marked as inactive when all of these has not occurred within the last 7 days.

    Client policy request

    Heartbeat discovery

    Hardware inventory

    Software inventory

    Status messages

2,Client activity is based on communication from fast channel (Notification agent) which sends a keep-alive every 5 or 15 minutes depending on how the client is connected via fast channel (HTTP or TCP).

The notification agent(Client) will attempt to connect the TCP to the current management point using 10123 Port. Once it’s successful, the client will send the keep-alive message every 5 minutes by default through ClientNotificationAgent.log & CCMMessaging.log to MP.

3,And how do the CcmMessaging.log, LocationServices.log and ClientLocation.log on the client say? Is there any error about the client communicating with the MP? Please help make sure that there is no firewall or anti-virus to stop the communication between the client and the MPs. Use the following URL to verify that a client can access the management point and the management point certificate information:

    http(s)://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist

    http(s)://<ServerName>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert

Where <ServerName> is the NetBIOS/FQDN for the management point computer.

Thanks for your time. Have a nice day!

    Best regards,

    Simon

To answers your question directly, There is a feature that will allow you to collect the logs and have them shipped to the site server but most people don't use it. As it is faster to map a drive (unc) to the computer and look at them there.
