Windows Update: check online for updates from microsoft update

Question

Dear All,

In general we can configure from group policy to check automatically: "Check for updates".

However,

Is it possible to check automatically: "check online for updates from microsoft update" .

Hello,

In the Windows operating system, Group Policy allows you to configure automatic checking for updates, including getting updates from Microsoft Update. Here are the steps on how to set up automatic checks for "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update": 

1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor: Press the 'Win + R' keys to open the 'Run' dialog box, type 'gpedit.msc' and press enter to open the 'Local Group Policy Editor'.
2. Navigate to Update Service Configuration: In the Local Group Policy Editor, expand the following path: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
3. Configure Microsoft Update: Double-click the Configure Automatic Update policy in the list on the right, and in the window that opens, select the Enabled option.  In the Options area, select Automatically download and notify installation or automatically download and schedule installation (depending on when you want the update to be installed after it is downloaded automatically).

Thanks for sharing the information.

I am not very confident that this solution worked. While configure the policy, the client do automatic update but it hit only "Check for updates".

The "check online for updates from microsoft update" was remain same.

How do i measure it?

When i configure the policy "Automatic Update" also configured "Automatic updates detection policy". and give time interval : 1 hour.

Notes:

After 1 hour the check for update console showed last checked time. But there no update installed. But if click "check online for updates from microsoft update" the new updates start downloading. So, the solution might be only for "Check for updates".
