Saving an Email to SharePoint in New Outlook Version

There are many times when I want to save an email to a particular file outside of Outlook. In the classic version, all I had to do was drag the email to the file on SharePoint and it was saved. How do I save an email to SharePoint in the new Outlook version?

The feature (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=380720) planned for March 2024 will probably solve this issue. Update April 2025
I am afraid it has not resolved the issue. It remains impossible to directly drag emails from new Outlook to SharePoint.

I have figured out a way to save/copy an email to a SharePoint site (a SharePoint document library) that essentially takes place entirely in the Microsoft cloud, and thus means you can initiate it from the New Outlook and have the email land in the SharePoint site. But there is an intermediate "middle man" who plays in important part: Windows File Explorer 📁 (explained below). The limitation is it only works one email at a time: as far as I can find, it's not possible to select multiple emails and then initiate the steps below.
It's very similar to the method outlined above by ChristyZhang-MSFT, but if you take one preliminary step before employing that method then you can have the email land in any SharePoint document library you want (that you have the necessary permissions for).
Here is that preliminary step: First, via your browser navigate to the folder in the SharePoint document library to which you want to copy the email. With that folder displayed/open, click on the "Add shortcut to OneDrive" button on the SharePoint toolbar.
So, great, that adds a shortcut you can see when you navigate to your online OneDrive storage in your browser but what is even better is that clicking that button also adds a shortcut for that location as a folder in the Folder List in Windows File Explorer 📁.
Once that's taken care of, then all you have to do is go back to New Outlook (or just Outlook in your browser, which is what New Outlook really is, without the rest of your browser interface displayed), then select the email, click on the 3-dot (...) menu for that email — or even just right-click on the email in the email list, then select Download from the menu, then select EML or MSG as your desired format on the submen, and then — when New Outlook displays the Downloads pop up in the top right of the window — you just click the "Save as" button. You're almost there: what happens next is that Windows File Explorer 📁 launches so you can select the folder to which you want save the email and it is there, in Windows File Explorer 📁, that you just navigate in the Folder List to the shortcut for the online SharePoint-based folder, select it, and click the Save button. I've tested it, and it works.

The features linked to Roadmaps mentioned by others have already been rolled out.
However, as others have written, they do not satisfy your requests.
And since the requested function is not listed in the latest Roadmap, it is highly likely that it is not being developed.
If necessary, please send feedback to request additional features.

    Hi @Sandy Hays ,

    Welcome to our forum!

Based on my test, i cannot drag the email in New Outlook for Windows to SharePoint directly, i'm afraid that it is not available in New Outlook. To use this feature directly, please switch to Legacy Outlook.

As a workaround, we can try the below steps to save emails to SharePoint:

Open the email you want to save.

    • Click on the three dots (usually located at the top right corner of the email).
    • From the dropdown menu, select “Save”. This action will save the email as a document in your Downloads folder.
    • Navigate to your Downloads folder in your Documents directory.
    • Drag the saved email file (usually at the top of the list) into the SharePoint folder of your choice.

Please kindly understand that many functions are not designed at present. It is recommended that you could post the functions you expect and your sincere suggestions on the website dedicated to collecting feedback. We sincerely welcome your suggestions, and thanks for your understanding and support!
