I just got my new laptop today. The sound isn't working. When I troubleshoot it has me restart my laptop which isn't working. And in Device Manager it says "No drivers are installed for this device".

I'd check the latest firmware, chipset and driver support packs have been installed.

lastly since brand new it could be a hardware failure problem in which case I'd contact the vendor for support.

    Hi,

We could open Device Manager, right click sound device and right click it to "scan for hardware changes" or update driver\search automatically for drivers.

If you can't find proper driver with this measure, we need to go to ThinkPad website to download the latest compatibility driver for X1 carbon.

    Bests,

The Windows 20H2 update has accompanied by user's frustration. One issue issue that has effected my company is the update's incompatibility issues with certain versions of audio drivers on the Lenovo X1 laptop. Systems Administrator's are checking forum and Googling fixes but finding nothing. No worries, I came up with a fix I'd like to share with anyone facing this issue.
Open the "Device Manager" with admin permissions.
Select "View" tab and then select "Devices by Connection". Select "Intel®Smart Sound Technology (Intel®SST) Audio Controller".
Uninstall "Intel®Smart Sound Technology (Intel®SST) Audio Controller" & it's associated drivers. Then Scan for new hardware changes. This will remove the in-operational driver installed by Windows update and force the installation of the correct driver. You now have sound again.
