Error: Failed to assess and install update Azure[ Connected Machine Agent Version 1.39]

Question

In the Azure Update Manager the update - AzureConnectedMachineAgent Version 1.39 - March 2024 Update - is pending. I tried an "One-time update" by Azure Update Manager but after aprox. 20 minutes proceeding the update fails with the following error:

But when I connect to the server and run "Check for updates" the update will be installed without any problems.

We experienced a similar error. We rolled out this update with a few other standard monthly patches. Only this updated failed to install.

We then simply re-ran the update install from azure update management and it worked.

In manual testing, the MSI for 1.39 would appear to install but not actually do anything. Running command prompt elevated and starting the MSI worked.
