By default, Windows usually prompts users to schedule updates or allows them to choose when to install them. However, there are settings that can be adjusted to automate updates or to give less notice before updates are applied.

    Hello,

While this behavior is the default setting in Windows 11/10, there is a workaround to make Windows notify you before downloading or installing updates. Let’s adjust the settings to ensure you receive notifications:

    Using Group Policy:

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

Type and hit Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.gpedit.msc

    Navigate to the following setting:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

Double-click on Configure Automatic Updates to open its configuration box.

Select Enabled, and from the available options, choose Notify for download and notify for install.

    Click Apply and then Exit.

Restart your computer to apply the changes.

With this setting, you’ll be notified when updates are ready to be downloaded, allowing you to control the installation process.

    Best Regards,

    Hania

    Thank's.

For the first answer, NO, windows 11 DO NOT automatically ask before updating. it download and install WITHOUT USER CONSENT.

For the second answer, do you think registry keys have been here randomly ? of course the policy has been adapted to FORCE windows 11 to ASK , BUT IT DOESNT WORK. if it worked, i would not have written here.

As usual, nobody in the world is able to understand what is happening inside windows. A world dominated by robots. Awesome.

Did you just create those registry entries, or did you run gpedit.msc to set the policy?

This is from Win10 which I would expect to be very similar to Win11.

Does Windows Update show this message?

Your image show AUOptions =2 but it sounds like you want WU to do the download and to notify you before it runs the install. So try option 3 (in gpedit.msc) and see if that works for you.
