Azure VM machine extensions

With current azure portal, how can you see what extensions are on the machine? Sites say "extensions" should be under settings, but not here.

HI Arthur,

You need to navigate to a Virtual Machine and then on left click on Extensions + applications blade on left. The virtual machine needs to be running.

Based on your screenshot, it appears you navigated to an Azure SQL Server instead, which is why you don't have Extensions + applications on left.

@arthur ross In Azure portal, enter "virtual machines" in the search box at the top, and then click on Virtual Machines. This will show you a list of your VMs. Click on the one you would like, then when it comes up click on Extensions + applications blade on left.

@arthur ross Based on your original screenshot and descriptions of what you are seeing, you are using Azure SQL Database, which is the Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering. It is different than running SQL Server on a VM.

Backup and point-in-time restore are part of the service.

You may use link below to view your PaaS Azure SQL Server(s):

You may use link below to view your PaaS Azure SQL Databases:

https://portal.azure.com/#view/HubsExtension/BrowseResource/resourceType/Microsoft.Sql%2Fservers%2Fdatabases

Note that Azure SQL Databases exist on Azure SQL Servers, so if you navigate to an Azure SQL Server -- SQL databases blade you can see the database(s) that are on that server. Likewise if you navigate to an Azure SQL Database -- Overview blade and click on Server name it will take you to the Azure SQL Server for that database.

Thank you. I finally stumbled back into this and remembered that I set the parameters up for the backups when I created the system. I found the backups already being done. You were very helpful. Thank you.

Thanks. I guess that is my issue. Is that part of your Azure portal? I built, named and configured them, but I do not see how to just look at the VM.

yes it's part of the Azure Portal.

Azure Portal -> Virtual Machine -> Double-Click on a VM in the List -> Extension applications

I do not understand what I am NOT seeing. I created to machines on Azure, test and prod. They both have a SQL DB on them. I set up a vault using the same resource as everything else I have for recovery. However, when I start to create a backup schedule, it cannot see either server.

I was, and still do, think the servers are VMs, but they do not show under virtual machines. I can access them. Update data to the DB, Create reports. I cannot back them up with what I know right now.

Can you, or anyone help clarify this for me? No backs is not a good thing.

could you please provide a screenshot of the portal (full view).

The snippet in your screenshot doesn't show all the details of the Azure resource you are talking about.
