Hello,

I am in the process of setting up a primary site server for Configuration Manager. When launching the wizard to install, I go to download prerequisite files. It downloads most but toward the end I get the following error in the ConfigMgrSetup.log:

ERROR: WinHttpReceiveResponse failed 80072f78 $$<Configuration Manager Setup>

ERROR: Download() failed with 0x80072F78 $$<Configuration Manager Setup>

Would anyone have any insight on this error?

    Hi, @Joseph Thomas

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

The error 0x80072F78 means: The server returned an invalid or unrecognized response Source: Winhttp

You can temporarily turn off the firewall on the server and check if that resolves the error. Antivirus in some cases could also be the cause of this issue. Turn off the AV and see if that allows the prerequisites download.

If you are not a network admin, you can always contact your network team and explain them about this issue. If you think any other network device could be blocking the downloads, the network team should be able to resolve this issue for you.

Looking at the error code 0x80072F78, it seems it's a network connectivity error. Check your network connection, to see if there is any firewall blocking your download process.

Run the download again after some time and see if that solves it. Also, try to restart your system and try again. It should work that way.

If all else fails, try a stronger network connection.
