Problem with Cyrillic in IIS

Standard pages with errors like 502, in which Cyrillic is present, are displayed incorrectly when an error occurs.

I tried to fix the general configuration and the globalization tag, but it didn't help. And also assigning the header charset=utf-8 did not help.

If you open this htm page (which is located on the path %SystemDrive%\inetpub\custerr\ru-RU) separately, just with a browser, then there is no such problem with the encoding. What needs to be configured in IIS to fix this?

Hi @А К,
Did you use IIS Native RewriteModule in your site? If so, try disabling it for the site and see if the problem goes away. Refer this similar thread.

@Yurong Dai-MSFT Hi. I'm using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module and I need it. In the lists of available modules I found only RewriteModule, most likely this is it. I decided to check what would happen if I turned it off. I got a 404 error, but with the same bad encoding. Maybe we were talking about some other module? Please tell me where I should have turned it off?

I may have understood it wrong before. Where did you add <meta charset="utf-8">? Was it added in %SystemDrive%\inetpub\custerr\ru-RU\502.htm?

Generally speaking, if <meta charset="utf-8"> is added to the page, it will tell the browser to use UTF-8 character encoding to interpret the content of the web page. This ensures that the text displayed on the web page can be correctly interpreted and Display, including support for multiple languages and special characters.

If it still doesn't work after you added it, first check whether the added header format is correct, and then try to clear the browser cache or try another browser.

The file itself is in windows-1251 encoding, the meta tag did not help. The only thing that helped was changing the encoding of the file itself to utf-8. This doesn’t look much like a solution to the problem, since the default encoding is windowds-1251 and nothing can be done with it using IIS settings or some tag, as far as I understand. That is, if we are dealing with poor encoding of pages that come by default with the module for iis, then we must either replace them with our own or correct the encoding there.
