We use SharePoint Online News Digest for internal users and need to track not just the number of clicks and opens, but who specifically opened and who specifically clicked through and when (date, not necessarily time).

Is there a way to do this within SharePoint or do we have to employ a third party tracker script from the likes of Hub Spot and mess around with the App Catalogue and master pages, etc.?

1.For number of open and open, go to the Site usage of the site collection, check usage activities.

2.For who specifically opened and who specifically clicked, please check these through audit logs.

Sign into the Microsoft Purview compliance portal -> Select the Audit tab on the left panel of the homepage to navigate to the Audit tool -> Select New Search tab at the top of the Audit page -> Then search audit logs.
