Intune Keeping (Line of Business Apps) Up to Date

We have a number of LoB Apps which I need to deploy via Intune. My question is what is the best way to make sure the Apps that are deployed are using the latest version? For example, I need to push out SQL Studio Management Studio, or other free downloaded Apps we use. Doing this manually might turn into a big headache.

@rr-4098 Currently, there is no method to update LOB apps automatically via intune. If you want to update LOB apps, it is needed to update the app package file.

@rr-4098, Thanks for posting in Q&A.

From your description, I know you want to keep apps deployed via Intune up to date.

Based on my experience, LOB and Win32 apps don't automatically update the version, they require you to upload the update package to Intune before they can update the version.

Here are links about how to update LOB apps and Win32 apps.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/lob-apps-windows#update-a-line-of-business-app

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/apps-win32-supersedence

If you want the app to automatically update to the latest, it is recommended that you use Microsoft Store app (New) to deploy the app, which does not require you to upload update packages, the application can be updated automatically.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/store-apps-microsoft

Please note that if you cannot find the app in Microsoft Store app(new), it means that the app is not managed by Microsoft, it is suggested that you deploy the app as win32 or LOB.

    Hope this can be helpful.

    Hi @ZhoumingDuan-MSFT ,

I apologize about the late response but was wondering if you could clarify this:

Please note that if you cannot find the app in Microsoft Store app(new), it means that the app is not managed by Microsoft, it is suggested that you deploy the app as win32 or LOB.

As the OP mentioned, he is trying to manage SQL Server Management Studio (I also have this issue) and this is an app managed by Microsoft. However, it cannot be found in the Microsoft Store App or Microsoft Store app(new) list in Intune. I don' think this means that the app is not managed by Microsoft, but rather that Microsoft has never added this application to the Microsoft Store.

That list will also include many apps that are not managed by Microsoft. However, there are many apps that are managed by Microsoft that never make it into the store.

However, it does sound like even after all this time and even a complete redesign and update of SSMS, that it is still not in the store and very difficult to keep updated.

Thanks and I appreciate the info!
