Need Help with AVD Pink Screen on GPU VMs

Hello Folks,

We are implementing AVD for GPU users.

They have been experiencing (at random times throughout the day), their screens turning pink and distorted (image attached). Unfortunately, there is not much documentation online for this specific issue and troubleshooting has been difficult. The user's current workaround is to close their AVD session and then reopen it (something not sustainable as a fix).

The GPU users are using Standard NV6ads A10 v5 & Standard NC8as T4 x3 personal machines.

Has anyone run into this issue before? Any guidance is appreciated.

We're having the same issue in AVD with multiple NV36ads_A10_v5 VMs. I've updated the drivers, confirmed extensions, etc. As long as AVC 444 is enabled on the session host then users will randomly experience certain screens with pink/green overlays until they close and re-open their remote desktop application. Disabling 444 on the local session host will resolve the issue, but then GPU acceleration and full frame encoding will not work which will pixelate videos online.

MS said to try this reg key. It has worked for us so far this week:

a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\H264Encoding\DisableChroma(REG_DWORD)=1

b. reg add “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\H264Encoding”/v DisableChroma/t REG_DWORD /d 1

Hello, yes, I logged a ticket with Microsoft for this exact issue, as well. They indicated that this was a known issue and recommended the following:

Apply the reg key as mentioned by John Fowler in this post

Move the host pool to Validation environment - it contains a supposed fix for this issue. This update should be rolled into GA after a couple weeks at time of me submitting this post, although no specific ETA is given.

Does anyone know if this Pink Screen issue has been resolved? The users have been screen distortion experiencing issues now with multiple monitors. I suppose the AVC 444 disablement has caused this problem. If we can turn this back on that would be great, but need to know if the pink screen issue is resolved.

Also wondering if this issue has been resolved? A bit pointless to use the NVads A10 v5 configurations if there is no hardware acceleration available at the moment due to this bug. Would like to switch all of my users from NV8ads V4 to NV A10 V5 series but this is a showstopper esp when using teams video.

Please make sure that you are running the latest supported version and also make sure that MSRDC is updated.

Thanks, Vipullag. But we have done that already. The pink screens do not seem to have a discernible trigger. They will happen out of nowhere to one engineer and then the rest will have the same issue thereafter.

We recently tried this on a couple local systems to see if it makes a difference:

From the run command open gpedit.msc

Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Connection Client

Double click the below setting located on the right-hand side: Do not allow hardware accelerated decoding

Set Do not allow hardware accelerated decoding to ENABLED

We have a set of users who have this applied.

Is this anything you are familiar with that might help solve the issue?

We have already done that.

We did just try this fix yesterday on about half of the users. So far, so good but not enough time to really determine if it fixes the issue.
