    Hi @Francois Timms,

    Thanks for your information.

I've checked the log and I agree with Greg Low. Here are my suggestions:

    1. Uninstalling the SQL Server clearly and try to reinstall. You can follow this article. In addition, I found an issue like yours and you can also try this:

For all future people: I understand you got error 1605. But it is not actually an error. Look in folder temp and you will find bat file. Open it with administrator and delete all that you can delete. In the end, you will have 2 files (in my case, database engine). Open registry editor with administrator, use Find (Ctrl+F), find by keys (long string of random chars), and delete everything corresponding to this keys. (Be patient, it can took a long time, appx. 30 seconds). Then delete all folders with SQL, in my case these were SQL2022 in C:\ and in C:\Program files. Reboot your computer and install SQL Server

    2. If you are windows11, here is A known issue with Windows 11 + SQL Server is a misaligning disk sector size.

Hope this can help you well.

    Best regards,

    Lucy Chen

    Good Morning

I followed the steps as provided by you and within the links shared and still no luck. I Also deleted all the relevant SQL Server folder and registry keys. After a reboot the installation still failed.

I again tried to remove all traces of SQL Server from my system (folders, registry entries). Still no luck. There seems to be an instance that remains somewhere within the registry. I will try again and follow the log errors.

    Morning

I still have the same error that appears, even after I have attempted to remove all traces of SQL Server instances from the registry. It would be great to get some clear instructions on exactly which keys I need to delete from the registry to get this working again.

    Log file attached.

    Thanks

    Hi @Francois Timms.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Please ensure you are following the steps to remove remnants from previous installations as instructed in this article.

Could you please post the errorlog.txt like this? The information you give cannot show us error messages.

Hi Some more info. I tried to reinstall both Express edition as well as the Developer edition, without success. Same error for both.ERRORLOG.txt Error log attached. And thank you for your assistance.

In addition, after you remove the registry key, please run the sfc tool to repair your operating system. After that, try to install SQL Server as administrator again.

It would be great to get some clear instructions on exactly which keys I need to delete from the registry to get this working again.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to share with us.

Note: Please post your issue or error logs by comment instead of answer. Thanks for your understanding!

    Best regards,

    Lucy Chen
