Intel Driver & Support Assistant sends updates to my graphic/video card approximately once a week. Is it necessary to install these updates every so often? When I go to "device manager" and search for drivers manually, Windows/Microsoft will update with an old driver from 2021. Why isn't Microsoft updated with the latest drivers from Intel and why does Windows Update override Intel updates after each installation with the outdated driver?

You need check with Intel and updates in the Windows Updates are more stable and because they are being deployed to all devices globally, it take time to test and verify. However, you may file a request in the Feedback Hub app and request to update driver.
You may install the update and test if everything is working or not and make sure the software you are using is trustworthy.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

You can decide whether to install updates released by Intel Driver&Support Assistant based on your own needs and the actual situation of the system. Generally speaking, updating drivers can improve system performance, fix known issues, and enhance system stability. However, not all updates are necessary, and sometimes new drivers may introduce new issues. If your system is running normally and you haven't encountered any performance or compatibility issues, then you don't necessarily need to install these updates every week. However, if you encounter problems, especially those related to graphics/video, installing the latest drivers may be helpful.

As for why Windows updates overwrite Intel updates and install old drivers, this may involve Windows update policies and driver authentication. Microsoft typically tests and certifies drivers and includes them in Windows updates to ensure compatibility with Windows systems. Therefore, even if Intel Driver&Support Assistant provides updated drivers, Windows Update may choose to install certified older versions of drivers to ensure system stability and compatibility.

Additionally, sometimes Windows updates may experience delays, causing it to not immediately update to the latest version of the driver. This may explain why you can only find old drivers when manually searching for drivers in Device Manager. If you encounter problems or want to try installing the latest version of drivers, you can manually install the latest drivers from the Intel website.

Hope this answer can help you well.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou
