I tested it for what you said and here is a screenshot of my test. Did not see the Sync via OneDrive App mentioned as FileDownloaded event in the Audit Logs of SharePoint as you described.
As we are committed to Sharepoint issues on the computer side. We recommend that you ask your question in the SharePoint iOS Community .The engineers there will have a more detailed look at the iPhone / iOS side of the issue.
