Is there a way to block the creation of public sites in SharePoint?

I have a use case where I would like to allow users to only create private teams sites but by exception be able to create a public teams site. Is this possible?

Thank you for posting in this community.

Unfortunately, there is no setting in sharepoint to change or restrict create private team sites or public team sites. This was manually selected when the site was created.

You could make your suggestion in the feedback portalto improve user experience. Many features of current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback.
