The correct way would be to remove it from AD, but do make sure that you have backed up any data you might want stored, as this will indeed result in removing the user from Azure AD/M365.
Delete User from AD
Hi
I have a question.
I have a user which is created on On-premise AD and synced to Azure AD. This user has exchange online, teams and one drive license.
I want to remove this user. What is the best way to remove this user?
If I will remove it from On-premise AD then this will remove automatically from Azure AD, exchange mailbox , teams and one drive?
Regards

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.
The best way to remove this user is to delete it in the local Active Directory and wait for Azure AD Connect to synchronize and reflect the changes to Azure AD. Thereby removing the user's relevant licenses and services. This means that the user's Exchange mailbox, Teams license, and OneDrive will be deleted. No need to manually delete the user's Exchange mailbox, Teams license, and OneDrive.
It is worth noting that completing these changes may take some time to fully take effect, depending on the frequency of synchronization and the running status of Azure AD Connect. Therefore, it is recommended that you wait for a period of time after deleting users to ensure that all services and licenses have been correctly deleted.
Hope this answer can help you well.
Best regards,
