Remote Desktop Service are installed to 2 Windows 2019 servers. (Server A & Server B) Licensing server of Server A is activated and configured with User CAL.

The specified Remote Desktop license servers of Server A in gpedit.msc is configured as 127.0.0.1. Licensing server of Server B is activated.

We would approach that Server B point to Server A for request User CAL.

The specified Remote Desktop license servers of Server B in gpedit.msc is configured as Server A.

Please advise the detail configuration for this situation.

    Hello Jacky

    You can follow this steps.

To configure Server B to point to Server A for Remote Desktop Services User CAL licensing, you need to ensure that the Remote Desktop Licensing server settings are correctly configured on both servers. Here is a step-by-step guide for configuring this setup:

    1. On Server A (Licensing Server):
      • Ensure that the Remote Desktop Licensing service is installed and activated on Server A.
        • Configure the Remote Desktop Licensing server to issue User CALs.
          • Open the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager on Server A and ensure that User CALs are available for issuance.
            • Make a note of the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address of Server A.
            1. On Server B:
              • Open gpedit.msc on Server B to configure the Remote Desktop Licensing server settings.
                • Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Licensing.
                  • Enable the policy "Use the specified Remote Desktop license servers" and enter the FQDN or IP address of Server A in the format ServerA.
                    • Ensure that the policy "Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode" is set to "Per User".
    2. Verify Configuration:
    • Restart the Remote Desktop Services on Server B for the changes to take effect.
    • Test the Remote Desktop connection from a client machine to Server B to ensure that the licensing information is being sourced from Server A.
      • Monitor the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager on Server A to check for User CAL issuance and usage.
