What impact shroud we expect regarding the SAP CDC and SAP Tables connectors already implemented for our customers?

Here is below the content of the SAP note :3255746 - Unpermitted usage of ODP Data Replication APIs

The usage of RFC modules of the Operational Data Provisioning (ODP) Data Replication API by customer, or third-party applications to applications to access on-premise SAP ABAP sources (On-Premise or Cloud Private Edition) is NOT permitted by SAP. Such modules are only intended for SAP-internal applications and may be modified at any time by SAP without notice.

SAP reserves the right to implement technical measures to restrict and audit the unpermitted use of RFC modules of the Operational Data Provisioning (ODP) Data Replication API.

Any and all problems experienced or caused by customer or third-party applications using RFC modules of the Operational Data Provisioning (ODP) Data Replication API are at the risk of the customer and SAP is not responsible for resolving such problems.

Solution

The Operational Data Provisioning (ODP) framework for data extraction and replication is exposed by an official and externally-available OData API. All customer and third- party applications should be built using this API since it provides a stable interface (link to documentation).

I checked with my internal team on this. Please see the below details.

Synapse Data Factory connector SAP CDC is using SAP ODP RFC API which is not supported anymore according to SAP note 3255746, ODP ODATA API should be used instead within the connector.

So here you can use SAP CDC via OData when it's ready or use the existing OData connector

do you have a realise date regarding the new connector SAP CDC via OData ?

Do you realise some of our customers are using the CDC connector to gain in term of performance then using the Data ? is there any workaround to continue using the CDC one until the ne we CDC connector is realised ?

Yes, RFC provides the great performance, while OData is slower.

Please see the below update from my internal team.

Currently, there is no ETA for the OData implementation. The reason behind this implementation choice is because OData is 10x slower.

There should be a public statement release in the following weeks about this.

So the options here are-

use SAP CDC via OData when it's ready(no ETA yet) or use the existing OData connector.

Hi,

I am also interested in this matter, as this change will significantly impact our implementation. Normally, this number of breaking changes should not occur between two major partners without proper alignment.

We find the communication via SAP notes insufficient and without any prior warnings.

Why was this not addressed before the adapter’s release? Could you please update us as soon as possible?
