Hello !!

I currently have the ms authenticator app (personal ms account) on my android phone and works as it should, but in a few weeks i will buy a new phone to upgrade my current one.

I'm not sure how to do the recovery on my new phone. This article says:

"Adding Authenticator to your new device doesn't automatically remove the app from your old device. Even deleting the app from your old device isn't enough. You must both delete the app from your old device AND tell Microsoft or your organization to forget and unregister the old device."

AND also says:

"To remove the app from a device using a personal Microsoft account, go to the two-step verification area of your Account Security page and choose to turn off verification for your old device."

I check my ms account security settings There is not an option to delete my device that have the ms authenticator. The only option that maybe make sense is to remove the "Send sign-in notification." and as i understand if i do that it will be disable the ms authenticator and maybe the cloud backup too not the device itself.

Also says that i must delete the app from the phone, i must do that before or after i install the ms authenticator to my new phone, and how i can do that if i cant access my old phone eg. it's broken or it's stolen ??

If i delete the app from my old phone, then install the app to my new one, and click on the "Restore backup" option will be that enough ??

Thanks in advance !!

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I hope this video can help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRHoId0-8qA

In the absence of a backup for restoration, the sole recourse is to utilize the account recovery methods provided by each service provider. The Microsoft Authenticator functions solely as a code generator.

Thank you for answer !! I forgot to add the link on my first post but fixed it.

I have already enabled the cloud backup on auth app.

I saw the video you provided me, but i am a little confused. Did i need to uninstall the auth app on my old phone before log in to auth app on my phone or not ?? Cuz the guy in video did not uninstalled it.

And in case that i lost my phone, what i need to do to stop the notifications from going to the stolen phone ??

Need i to remove the auth app on my ms account by removing the "Send sign-in notification" option on the security section, before i setup the auth app on my new phone ?? And if i do that, will it delete my cloud backup ??

    Thanks in advance !!
