Azure Site Recovery - Exclude disk isn't an option?

Hello, I am configuring a new VM for replication using Azure Site Recovery. From an on-prem VMware environment to Azure. This VM has one OS disk and one data disk. Both are Basic, not dynamic. During setup I want to exclude the data disk from replication, but this screen seems to have the option locked out. I can only choose All Disks. Can anyone explain how a disk could be excluded in this this scenario?

Disk management looks like this on the VM directly.

Hello @AdamTyler-3590 Thank you for posting your concern on the Microsoft Q&A platform.

I see that you are configuring a VM to ASR replication and want to use exclude disk option which seems to be missing. There are certain limitations when it comes to excluding disks, listing a few:

    • You can't exclude operating system disks or dynamic disks.
    • You can't exclude a disk that's replicating.
    • You can exclude disks only on VMs that have the Mobility service installed.

Can you confirm, if you have installed the mobility service agent on the VM?
Because, exclude options only comes when you go with Agent method and Agent is installed.

Hope this helps. Would be glad to assist further if you come back to us with an update.

Hello! It looks like you are trying to exclude a data disk from replication during disaster recovery from an on-premises VMware environment to Azure with Azure Site Recovery. According to the documentation, you can exclude basic disks from replication, but you can't exclude operating system disks or dynamic disks. Temp disks are excluded by default. Based on the screenshots you provided, it seems that both disks are basic disks, so you should be able to exclude the data disk from replication. However, if you are unable to select the data disk for exclusion during setup, it's possible that the disk is already replicating. You can't exclude a disk that's already replicating. In this case, you would need to disable and re-enable replication for the VM to exclude the data disk. If the issue persists, please provide more information about the error message or any other details you are seeing during setup.
