Edge running in the background without permission

I've noticed even after turning off "Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed," prelaunch in regedit, and startup with autoruns, that edge still manages to stay open in my task manager after killing any active session of it. I have low ram, yet it's reserving around 500-700 MB of memory in the background. If anyone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Even if you disabled extensions running in the background when Edge is closed, some extensions might be sneaky.
    2. Open Microsoft Edge and go to Settings (three dots menu) > Extensions.
    3. Review the list of extensions and disable any you don't actively use.

    Edge might be running as a service in the background. You can check and manage services by typing "services.msc" into the Windows search bar and pressing Enter. Look for any Edge-related services, such as "Microsoft Edge Update Service," and set their startup type to "Disabled" if you want to prevent them from running automatically.

    We suggest that you try the following methods to solve this problem:

    The pre boot feature of Edge disabled in the registry may require a computer restart to take effect. You can restart your computer to ensure it takes effect

    Although not a permanent solution, when you find that Edge is still running in the background, you can manually end its process using Task Manager. Right click on the taskbar, select "Task Manager", find the Edge process in the "Processes" tab, and then select "End Task".

    Update Edge or change browser: If the problem still persists, consider updating Edge to the latest version or trying a different browser to see if the same issue occurs.
