Can we safely upgrade the version of Microsoft ODBC driver 17 for sql server, on a server running sharepoint server 2016?

We have a server running sharepoint server 2016. SQL is installed on another server.

The sharepoint server has Microsoft ODBC driver 11 for sql server ( installed as part of the pre-reqs for sharepoint install) and also Microsoft ODBC driver 17 for sql server ( probably besucase we have installed SSMS on the sharepoint server).

Can we safely upgrade the version of Microsoft ODBC driver 17 for sql server on the sharepoint server? ( we only want to patch to the latest version of version 17).

Will patching the ODBC driver ( version 17) interupt sharepoint services ? Do we need to reboot afterwards ?

Microsoft's official documentation does not indicate how the OOBC driver upgrade affects SharePoint Server. However, we recommend that you please do the following before upgrading:

1.Review the system requirements for both the ODBC driver (System requirements, installation, and driver files) and SharePoint Server 2016 (Hardware and software requirements for SharePoint Server 2016).

2.Ensure that your SharePoint environment is compatible with the new ODBC driver version.

3.We recommend that you back up your SharePoint environment before upgrading.

4.Test the upgrade in a non-production environment first to identify any potential issues.

5.Monitor your SharePoint environment for any unexpected behavior after the upgrade.
