How to fix Database Engine Services Failure during SQL server 2022 installation

I was trying to install SQL Server 2022 on my windows virtual machine and got the following error:

Unable to install SQL Server(setup.exe)

I have attached the summary file too.Summary.txt

In the same folder that you found that file, there is also a detail.txt that could gives us more information.

When you say virtual machine, on what platform are you running?

So I just got to know that there doesn't appear to be a way to successfully run SQL Server products on a Windows Arm machine, physical or virtual. Is there a way I can access the SQL Server run using Docker on my M1 from Visual Studio on my Windows Virtual Machine( also run on my M1)?

Are you trying to install SQL Server 2022 on the Virtual Machine installed on Mac with Windows 11 Pro? Could you please post the detailed log to help us narrow down your issue?

In addition, installing and Running SQL Server on MAC is not an easy task. I've found an issue, and it provided two links. Hope this can help you well if you are trying to install the SQL on Mac.

If you need to run SQL Server on a Mac with Apple Silicon, for development purposes, we recommend using a Docker container using Rosetta 2 support. While this is not a supported configuration by Microsoft Support, it will be a lot better than running SQL Server on a Windows VM and provide a far better experience.

About Docker, you can follow this tutorial: How To Install SQL Server on Mac (M1 | M2 | M3) (2024) (youtube.com).

NOTE: I suggest you uninstall the SQL Server first and restart your computer.

I am indeed trying to install SQL Server 2022 on the Virtual Machine(UTM) installed on my Mac M1 air with Windows 11 Pro. I am aware of the docker container for running the SQL Server on Mac but I need SQL Server on windows since I intend to use it with Visual Studio to develop a windows desktop application which is a task I need to complete for my Internship.

Here is are some links I have harvested on the topic, but that is not to say that they are better than Lucy's. (I don't dabble with Macs myself, so I have no reason to evaluate them. Although for the second link I know Randolph West well enough to say that this is a person that knows what they are talking about.)

Thanks Erland but I already have SQLserver running on my Docker on my Mac , I just wanna know if its possible to access it from a visual studio on the windows ARM Virtual Machine

As I said, I don't run on Mac myself, so I can't assist with details. But I can't see why it would not be possible. Are you able to access SQL Server from SQLCMD or Azure Data Studio? Then you would use the same method for Visual Studio.

I find two issues like yours, they all tried to access SQL on Docker from VS. I don't know if the methods they used can also apply to the VS on VM. My suggestion is you can try the methods to see if they will work.
