Hey there,

I want to know how to shorten the drive's name for the file path that I want to add into the footer of a worksheet in Excel 2010. The worksheet is saved in a shared N: drive for company use. The description of this drive in the footer used to show as "N:\" in the front of the file path , however, it now appears as "\NAS141AC3\shared_folder" which is its full name of the drive.

So is there a way to change the description of this drive back to "N:\" from "\NAS141AC3\shared_folder" ? I've attached scanned historical file and the current result for your reference.

According to my test, this may be an issue by design.
We could delete the file name when inserting File path.

It will display with file name when opening the file by navigating to the file path on local location.

It displays without file name when opening by Network Path which lies in Properties(right-click shared folder)>Sharing.

However, minimizing the shared drive's name in a file path may be related to VBA.
Since we are responsible for general issues about Office desktop applications and VBA is out of our scope of support. I suggest you to post your issue on the Excel for Developers forum.

    Regards,
    Erin
