Microsoft Authenticator issues on Android

Question

Recently two, possibly linked, issues have started happening while using the authenticator app.

First one is about notifications: when i try to reload them (either by refreshing the main page, or by using the dedicated function) i get the error "error checking notifications". Having no reference error code or info regarding that i have no clue what to do.

The other one, is worse. Whenever i receive a login request to approve and use and approve it, i am told that there's been a communication error with the server, the error code being "unrecognized" (?).
I can however use the generated codes to login instead.

I am pretty lost, and i can't seem to find similar issues.

I am trying to avoid removing the authenticator to avoid getting stuck without it in case of issues adding it back.

I have tried the common troubleshooting methods (restart the devices, clear authenticator cache, turn 2fa on and off briefly).
