I agree. This update should have been a bigger announcement. I will ask around. I know in the past, Activity Logs were described as incurring archival costs. This came up on internal forums recently. Good news either way.
Retention and archiving cost of non-billable tables
Hey folks
I see MS updated this page a few months ago: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/logs/data-retention-archive?tabs=portal-3%2Cportal-1%2Cportal-2#pricing-model
This part has been added to the documentation: "Log data that has _IsBillable == false
is not subject to retention or archive charges."
I want to be sure I understand this correctly. Does that mean that storing these non-billable logs in interactive tier or archive tier won't incur any charges? If so, is this just an update in the documentation and it worked like this all along, or is this a technical change and these logs are only free to store from this point on?
In the past Microsoft support stated that only ingestion is free for these tables but not the long term (90+ days) storage. So either they were wrong back then, or this change came out without a big announcement.
