Unable to upgrade to Entra ID P2 Tier from my Azure Free Account.

Hello There,

I am currently studying for my AZ-104 exam. So I had a free Azure account registered with an email id, say @outlook.com. I was accessing it for a month until I wanted to create & manage tenants and explore Entra ID.
Now, I upgraded my free account (
@outlook.com) to a Pay-as-you-go account and then wanted to upgrade the Entra ID service P2 trial version. So, I navigate to Entra ID --> Select Roles and administrators --> selected the option to upgrade to Entra ID P2 service. Now, in the following screen I was asked to enter my work or school email id and when I entered "@outlook.com", Azure basically considered this to be a new account and setup a new tenant with a new username "user2@@onmicrosoft.com".

So there are a few questions I have and would like your assistance on the same.

  1. How do I associate my newly upgraded Pay-as-you-go account for ******@outlook.com with the newly upgraded Entra ID P2 tier?
    Since this user account still shows that I cannot add new tenants and still need a valid Entra ID license. Refer to Pic-1.
  2. How do I delete the new tenant that was created for a new user "user2@******@onmicrosoft.com" which has the Entra ID P2 service enabled but no subscriptions attached to it?
    Please note this user was not created by user1 rather it was created at the time of upgrading Entra ID to P2 for user1. Refer to Pic-2 .
  3. I understand that Each tenant can have multiple subscriptions establishing a 1 to Many relationship. However multiple tenants cannot be linked to a single subscription if I am not wrong?

    1). Associating Your Pay-As-You-Go Account with Entra ID P2 To associate your upgraded Pay-as-you-go account (******@outlook.com) with the newly upgraded Entra ID P2 tier, follow these steps:

    • Log in to your Azure portal using ******@outlook.com.
    • Navigate to Azure Active Directory.
    • From there, go to the Licenses section and click on All products. From here, select + Try/Buy.
    • Choose the P2 version of the Entra ID and confirm your selection. Ensure that this process is being done under the original tenant associated with ******@outlook.com, not the new one inadvertently created

    If you cannot add an Entra ID P2 trial to your new Entra Free Trial account/ Tenant, create a new user and assign that user the Global Admin role.

    2). Please refer to Delete a tenant in Microsoft Entra ID

    Clean up resources and delete the tenant

    3). Your understanding is correct, each Entra ID tenant is capable of managing multiple subscriptions, but a single subscription cannot be linked to multiple Entra ID tenants. This setup ensures that resource management and billing are handled per tenant, maintaining organizational boundaries and security constraints.
