The installation of SQL Server 2022 Express edition mainly consists of two major steps: downloading the installation files, and installing the database engine and instance.

To download the installation files, you need to use the .exe file from the official website, and there are three similar methods to choose from (they differ in the time taken).

The installation of the database engine and instance can then proceed following the instructions provided by the installation wizard.

You find documentation for installation on https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql-server/install/what-s-new-in-sql-server-installation?view=sql-server-ver16. Or more precisely that is the start. Look in the ToC to the left to find the rest.

The topics are not specific to Express Edition, though, but rather they cover all editions.
