Verify Custom Domain Failed

When I try and verify my domain in Entra, I get this message:

This domain has been previously configured on an existing Microsoft Entra tenant or Office 365. To verify this domain name, you will first need to remove the domain name from the existing directory.

Is this because I previously had an Azure tenant that used this domain (since deleted), or is it because I purchased Microsoft 365 (with Exchange) and used my domain email address, so now that is configured there?

Is there any way around this, other than using another domain (e.g. domain.net)?

Mostly just looking for my users to be able to log into AVD as ******@domain.com rather than ******@domain.onmicrosoft.com.

Hi Sean - no, that's not possible. Microsoft 365 is already using an Entra tenant - you cannot create another one with the same name

You can simply use the existing tenant instead.
