In my Visual Studio the Open Chat Window is disable and I don't see any GitHub copilot?

VS Version: Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2022 Version 17.10.0 VisualStudio.17.Release/17.10.0+34916.146 Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.8.09037

Chatted with MS Engineer from VS Support Team and Concierge Support - No resolution.

They have recommended to reach out to this forum for next level support.

Steps Tried:

a. Make sure you have the latest version of Visual Studio 2022 installed. You mentioned that you have already updated to VS 2022, so you should be good to go.

b. Check if the GitHub Copilot extension is installed. You can do this by going to the Extensions menu in Visual Studio and searching for “GitHub Copilot”. If it is not installed, you will need to install it.

c. Sign in to Visual Studio with the GitHub account that has been assigned the GitHub Copilot license. This is important to ensure that your license is properly activated.

d. Once you are signed in, you should be able to access GitHub Copilot features within Visual Studio. You can try opening a C# file and start typing code to see if GitHub Copilot suggestions appear.

Additional Steps Tried:

a. Restart Visual Studio: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve issues with extensions not appearing or being disabled.

b. Check Extension Status: Go to the Extensions menu in Visual Studio and select “Manage Extensions.” In the “Installed” tab, locate the GitHub Copilot extension and ensure that it is enabled. If it is disabled, you can enable it by clicking on the “Enable” button.

c. Reset Visual Studio Settings: If the above steps do not work, you can try resetting your Visual Studio settings. To do this, go to the “Tools” menu, select “Import and Export Settings,” and choose the option to reset all settings.

d. Reinstall GitHub Copilot: If none of the above steps work, you can try reinstalling the GitHub Copilot extension. First, uninstall the existing GitHub Copilot extension from the “Extensions” menu. Then, restart Visual Studio and reinstall the extension from the Visual Studio Marketplace.

    Hi @Kharatmol, Vijay ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Starting with Visual Studio version 17.10, GitHub Copilot Chat is included in the new unified GitHub Copilot extension available as a recommended component in the Visual Studio Installer. You can install it by opening the Visual Studio Installer > Individual components tab > search GitHub Copilot component.

If it is installed but in an inactive state, it may be because:

    1. you're not yet signed into Visual Studio with a GitHub account
    2. your signed in GitHub account doesn't have an active Copilot subscription to GitHub Copilot for Individuals or GitHub Copilot for Business
    3. the signed in GitHub account credentials need to be refreshed. (Select "Refresh your credentials" from the Copilot badge in the upper-right corner of your Visual Studio environment.)
    4. your administrator disables Copilot for individual or any Copilot license.
    5. your network is down.

For more information, please see: Copilot is inactive

    Sincerely,

    Anna
