Hello,

I use a personal laptop and a personal Microsoft account. My Windows update button is greyed and clicking it won't do anything. How do I fix this and update my Windows 10?

    Hello

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the Windows Update button being greyed out. Here are a couple of steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

    Click on 'Additional troubleshooters'.

Under 'Get up and running', select 'Windows Update' and run the troubleshooter.

Check Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services:

Click Start, type services.msc in the search area, and then click services.msc in the programs list.

Double-click 'Background Intelligent Transfer Service'. If the Startup status lists 'Stopped', click 'Start' and then click 'OK'. If the status is 'Running', right-click then select 'Restart'.

Double-click 'Windows Update'. If the Startup status lists 'Stopped', click 'Start' and then click 'OK'. If the status is 'Running', right-click then select 'Restart'.

Run SFC and DISM to check for system errors and corrupted files:

Open Command Prompt as an administrator.

Type sfc /scannow to run the System File Checker.

If issues are found, you can use the Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool (DISM) by typing DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

    Reset Windows Update Components:

You can reset the Windows Update components manually. This involves stopping the Windows Update services, clearing the temporary files that Windows Update uses, and then restarting the service.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it could be due to a more specific problem related to your system or network configuration.
