Dependency agent is currently supported only till RHEL 8.6. But as per redhat life cyle- RHEL 8.6 will be end of support by May 2024. So, if VMs are upgraded to RHEL 8.8 or RHEL 8.10, then dependency agent is not available for these images. By when dependency agent will support RHEL 8.6+ and RHEL 9 VMs.

Also, azure markept place does not have RHEL 8.10 images yet, but in place upgrade can only be done on RHEL 8.8 or on RHEL 8.10.

    Hello, @GazalPandey-5428 !

When will dependency agent be available for RHEL 8.6+ and RHEL 9 VMs?

I reached out to the virtual machine team and received confirmation today that there are no plans to support Dependency Agent beyond RHEL8.6. They are currently working with the Azure Monitor Agent team to drop support for RHEL 8.6 as well to align with its end of life.

If you are looking for similar capabilities for RHEL 8.6+, you may need to explore an alternative solution from the Azure Marketplace (Dynatrace or App Dynamics may be good places to start).

The recommendation if you are looking to use RHEL 8.8 or RHEL 8.10 is to transition using a clean installation of the OS. While you may be able to complete the upgrade, they are not always compatible with newer Azure features and we've seen an increased number of support cases from those who have performed in-place upgrades. Separating data from the OS into separate drives is a best practice that will help make this a much smoother process.
