Xbox compatibility with M.2 - CFexpress adapter that supports PCIE 4.0 over 2 lanes?

Question

I would like to know if a proper CF express adapter that supports PCIE 4.0 over 2 lanes paired along with an m.2 that is as fast or faster than system memory would work? And if not is this because of firmware or some other feature designed into the official memory card expansions for series X? I cant afford much more than an m.2 adapter and want to use an existing SSD for storage expansion.
