i am trying to discover if there is a group policy setting that will restrict resaving an older archived document in its original format. I.e. we have old docs in a word 97-2003 format which is not supported for M365 Purview DLP. so we want to remove it as an option.

    Hi @Bradshaw, Ryan

Based on my tests, you may go to Administrative Templates (Users) > Microsoft Word 2016 > Word Options > Security > Trust Center > File Block Settings, enable "Save Block" for Word 2003 and plain XML documents and Word 2007 and later binary documents and templates.

If you click the Save button to save the .doc file, then you will get the message as following image shown.
